Changing the battery and back cover of a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact D5503.
Mainly utilizing a hair dryer and a guitar pick, maybe a spudger and a little bit of patience.
A suitable battery is available here (it’s one without the antenna, you have to reuse your old antenna if you need NFC):

A few additional things to note:
– Do not push the pick in too deep. You can end up damaging the NFC sticker on the old battery (more on that below).
– The camera lens area is magnetic, so be careful when removing the screw, as it might magnetize to the lens.
– My new battery did not come with an NFC sticker or the foam square above the power connector. I had to remove these from the old battery using the toolkit tools and then reapply them to my new battery.
– When removing the film on the back of the backplate, there is a second layer of film on the camera lens. Remove this additional film circle with tweezers.
Sony has no need to change battery even after 5 years.
Hello, I would like to ask you a question, please. I need to change my battery and do what you did on this video. When you remove the top part of the screen, do you need to replace it with a new one by force or you can you back on the old top part of the screen?
if electronic parts are from China then the chance of it being bull is inversely proportional to the price.

Don't you usually pronounce 'Z' as 'Zed'?
great video, short, detailed and effective
Dude, thank you for this video. It really helped me. Just a correction in what you said towards the end: It is Ladies and "Gentlemen", not Genitals!.
I need to change the battery on my phone but after watching this I think I'll just get a new phone. Sony used to be such a good company but, seriously? Why should it be so difficult to change a battery! I don't even have a hairdryer. I'm going back to Samsung!
i don't have hairdrayer or any heating device, can i use flame from a gas stove?? just hover the phone above the flame
are z1 compact batteries same as xperia a2?
how to reuse antenna nfc?
z1 compact or z1 big ? why the battery so big
i need to know where i can get that battery. i also have battery problems with my xperia
Disregard wrong video
What is the tool called for unscrewing the screws?
Ladies and genitals lol :p
Thanks very much for video, thanks to you I successfully replaced my one with an original battery without NFC ( I don't mind) it came 18%charged and now my phone is like new. I accidentally had the correct metal tool and that allowed me to remove the case easily and without damage it . I already ordered a replacement but I could actually re seal the original one. Thanks again 🙂
thanks for the vid 🙂
Should i heat the back again after changing the battery just to make sure the adhesive glue sticks as it should
Thanks a lot for your video! Having the same problem here; phone shutting down when battery still indicating 60%. Did replacing it fixed your problem?
15:26 Ladys and genitals??? wtf?
i'm a lifetime proven brilliant engineer by qualification and experience [i'm 60]…never could be bothered to write a comment on you tube but….you young fella are brilliant in your thoughts and skills…excellent stuff. m. uk
"Ladies and genitals"?! What do You mean??
ODPOWIEDZ
"Ladies and genitals"?!!!
Thanks <3
I need to do this soon, my battery barely last a day
Great Video, thanks 🙂
I have the flashing light thing, and I first thought my Hdd is dead or something, but most likely just the battery. Very good tutorial. Gonna buy new battery tomorrow… (cant use your link cause I live in Finland, delivering is expensive :D)
Hi thanks for the well made informative video. It only took me 10 minutes to change the battery and powered up first time.
Very good explained. Thanks
hi can use the one without that black antena at the back, amazon dont have this type of batteery any more
Thanks for that, you made it look so easy I'm gonna do it.
hi, i want ask is that ur z1 compact have the issues that turn off automatic due to the overheating, and sometimes it cant charge normally, it will get the red link blink and blink. Need to rest a little time then can continue charging
The tiny screw is on the left, not right. My mistake..
A very helpful video; easy to follow and understand.
My new battery did not come with the NFC sticker, I carefully peeled it from the old battery and stuck it in place on the new battery without a problem.
There are 2 small tabs at the lower end of the battery which need fitting in place first, before the top right [tiny] screw, or the cover will not fit properly.
As a native English speaker may I say how impressed I am with your excellent English.
Keep up the good work
PS Is the Z1 Compact a lovely little phone, or what?
Gracias!
watch out everyone! i tried and my battery explode.
thanks for the instructions mate. I have a question, I bought a battery but not a new back cover, can a reuse the old one and what glue could I use to glue it back on. thank in advance for any help.
Very informative tutorial with added humour. Well done
Is IT watterproof now ?
Thanks for the details well done for the effort you made to explain how to do, cool.
thanks for this! my phone lives again and i feel so pleased that i didn't have to ditch it, just because of a dead battery. so much waste avoided and money saved! thank you!
